About Me

I also fell in love with theatre at an early age and started acting professionally at the age of 10. This path expanded into writing, composing and directing in theatre which gave me a place to break the “rules” and create a space of transformation. I graduated with a BFA in Theatre from New York University and have worked as both a solo and collaborative performer with the Generic Ensemble Company, the Left Feet Dance Collective, We Players, Psychopomp and Circumstance, and more.

Parallel to the magical work of voice and song I do in my private practice, I simultaneously live in the world of voice science. In other words, I’m a complete and utter voice science nerd! I have the privilege of working with the medical side of vocal healing through my work as a voice, swallowing and upper airway disorders specialist, and as the director of Passaggio, the gender affirming voice program at San Francisco Voice and Swallowing.

My name is Wynde Vastine (they/them) and I am a white, trans nonbinary speech language pathologist (SLP) and voice and somatic practitioner. I have been supporting others with their voice for over two decades, specializing in the authentic expression of emotions and working through the blocks of stress and trauma. Also a leader in the field of gender affirming voice, my work includes publishing writings on these topics and traveling across the U.S. and around the globe teaching other speech language pathologists and/or teachers.

All my life the voice has been a sacred experience. I fell in love with it as a transformative vehicle when I was a young child as I loved to sing with the stars, land and living creatures. I began to move through life honoring the voice as a powerful and dynamic vessel of both expression and healing. As I grew older, singing became a deeply personal way for me to connect to my ancestors and part of my own deep spiritual practice as I found it to be the most instant and direct way to connect with the divine. This gift led me to work in hospice where I utilized song as a way to lovingly support those who were dying.

My own personal journey with the voice has also given me a strong foundation from which to work with others. I continue to personally work through the impact of both physical and emotional stress and trauma. This healing work has led to some of my most transformative moments in life, including when I found a place in my voice that was completely free from gender. As a trans nonbinary person, being able to sing the heights, depths and all the queer nuances of gender through my voice is a space of liberation. And this is a liberation that I wish for all beings.

As I move into my third decade of voice work I continue to deepen both my expertise and understanding through continued personal and professional growth. My ongoing personal training with teachers of spiritual mystery traditions and training to be a certified Somatic Experience® practitioner allow me to also deepen the mystical, creative, and healing work (and play!) with those who seek my services.

When not working, you can find me communing in nature, going deep into inner worlds, or laughing and playing with loved ones. I currently reside on the unceded territory of Huchiun, the land sacred to the Lisjan Ohlone people, also known as the San Francisco Bay Area with my partner and 12-year-old daughter.
